University Vice Chancellor Professor John Warren on behalf of the University presented the donated items to acting Gazelle District Administrator Nicholas Baroro and his team on Monday. Professor Warren said when the disaster appeal was launched, staff were willing to donate because they felt a huge sympathy for the affected islanders of Kadovar in East Sepik.   He said this signified that the people of PNG are generous and that giving is part of their culture. Skills and knowledge gained during training must reach farmers at the rural areas to help improve their livelihoods. World Bank Project Management Unit representative Louis Kurika said this today at the opening of a week-long lead farmers and extension officers training workshop at the University. 105 participants in three project areas - Vudal Vunapalading, Central Inland Baining and Women and Youth - are undergoing training on Sustainable Livelihood, Basic Record Book Keeping; and the Bank South Pacific facilitated Financial Literacy training. Mr Kurika urged participants to impart skills and knowledge gained from the training to farmers because donor partners have spent a lot of money to ensure that farmers in rural areas have access or benefit from the project. He said it is their responsibility as lead farmers and extension officers to learn as much as possible.
