UNRE Vudal hosts Trukai fun run for the first time

PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment Vice Chancellor led more than 150 participants in the 2018 Trukai Fun Run at the Vudal Campus on Sunday. Vice Chancellor Professor John Warren and his wife Dr Cathryn Warren joined students, staff and their dependents to complete the 3 kilometre run. Awards were given to the best runners. UNRE Students Representative Council President Jasper Daun said the event was first of its kind to be held at the Campus, outside of Kokopo and Rabaul. He said he observed that the event caught the attention of campus residents and motivated those who hardly exercise or participated in sports to take part. UNRE academic wins women's category in 6th Gogo Cola Bicycle Race

The participation of the University of Natural Resources and Environment in different activities in East New Britain is to encourage local communities to take ownership of the university. Over the recent Queen’s Birthday long weekend, three student teams took part in the New Guinea Islands Football Federation PNG tournament while University Vice Chancellor Professor John Warren and his wife Dr Cathryn Warren participated in the 6 th Gogo Cola Bicycle Race. The race began at Kalabond Field in Kokopo at 9am and ended in Rabaul. Dr Warren won the women’s division, which was contested by 30 women. Her prize money was K1,000, however she gave this to the second place winner. She said she took part in the race for fun and as an expatriate felt that it was unfair for her to claim the prize. She was given five cartons of Gogo Cola as consolation, which she plans to sell. The money raised from the sale of the drinks will be donated to Meri Safe Haus. This is the second time Dr Warr

UGFA teams perform well at NGI tournament

Teams representing the University of Natural Resources and Environment Gazelle Football Association performed well at the New Guinea Islands Football Federation PNG (FFPNG) tournament during the long weekend. The three-day tournament was held at Kalabond Field in Kokopo starting on Saturday with a total of 15 teams participating - nine mens and six womens. President of UNRE Gazelle Football Association (UGFA) Joe Ivura said the association management was impressed with their performance despite being new to such competition. Two of the teams made it to the semi-finals. He thanked the PNG UNRE Management and  the Students Representative Council for their support during the tournament. UGFA had three teams in the tournament: Kalibobo FC, Lae Citizens FC and the women’s team, Sawanga Sisters. Marketing roadshow receives positive feedback

The 2018 PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment marketing roadshow to schools in East New Britain has received positive feedback from schools visited. Officers from the University’s Student Administration and the Public Relations Office visited Kerevat National High School, Our Lady of Sacred Heart (OLSH) Vunapope, Vunabosco Technical, St Mary’s Vunakanau and Kambubu. 33 students who were interviewed said the presentation was informative especially information on the new courses offered at the university, levels of certification and the explanation by Senior Assistant Registrar (Student Administration) Gali Ibos on the National Online Selection that was introduced by the Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology last year. Students responded well and showed a lot of interest because of the new courses and level of certification offered by the University. UNRE commemorates World Environment Day

The Clean Up team at Kerevat. PNG University of National Resources and Environment commemorated World Environment Day (WED) yesterday with different activities. The students divided themselves into two groups: the first group led by Students Representative Council (SRC) President Jasper Daun did a clean-up and public awareness; while the second group led by former SRC President Florian Pai conducted awareness at primary schools. With the 2018 WED theme being “Beat Plastic Pollution” the first group did a clean-up, picking plastics at the University campus and Kerevat town. They also conducted awareness on how plastics have affected or polluted the environment.
