University Council endorses PNG UNRE Development Plan 2018-2022

THE PNG UNRE Council has approved the University’s Development Plan 2018-2022.
The Plan has identified six key Strategic Development Areas which will transform the way the University delivers on its commitments to quality academic and research programmes; and its community extension services.
The six areas are: Academic Schools; Centre For Graduate Studies & Research; Community Outreach & Extension Services; Academic Support Services; Planning & Development; and Staff & Students Support Services.
Various projects under these development areas have been identified and a workshop is being conducted by the Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation Office to introduce section heads to the concept of project scoping and to identify project working teams to scope and develop the projects.
The projects include buildings and offices of the various Schools, Centre for Graduate Studies and Research Building, Auditorium, Classrooms, Lecture Halls, Students Dining Hall, Fisheries Research Facility and others.
The Development Plan has been aligned to the Medium Term Development III (2018-2022).
Pro Vice-Chancellor Planning & Development Dr Pongie Kichawen said this was important to ensure that the University received PIP funds from the Government.

UNRE takes back UNRE Popondetta

Oro Provincial Administration staff with UNRE officers. PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment will resume offering its Academic Programs at PNG UNRE Popondetta Campus in Oro Province next year (2021). This follows a decision by the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST). Last week UNRE Chancellor Professor Kenneth Sumbuk and acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor Planning and Development Dr Francis Essacu, with senior staff from UNRE Popondetta Campus met with Oro Provincial Administrator Trevor Magei and executive members from the Office of Governor Garry Juffa to discuss the latest development of Popondetta Campus. UNRE launches Cocoa and Goat Integration Manual

The event, which was held last month was attended by university staff; representatives from NARI, NAQIA and PNG Cocoa Board; James Butubu Area Manager ACIAR Bougainville; and acting Pro Vice Chancellor Academic and Research Mr Peter Navus. Speaking on behalf of the University, Mr Navus thanked the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) for having confidence in UNRE as one of its partners, the University Farmer Training Centre, Kairak Centre for Sustainable Rural Development (KCfSRD) for the implementation of the project objectives and the other collaborating partners.
