PNG
UNRE has suspended formal face-to-face (contact) classes at its Vudal Campus
for 14 days following the detection of a second COVID-19 positive case. The
affected individual is now in isolation at the East New Britain Provincial
Health Authority (ENBPHA) COVID-19 Care Facility.
The
suspension of classes is from Thursday, March 18, 2021 to Wednesday, March 31,
2021, however, classes that can be conducted online are continuing. All
University staff are at work and have been encouraged to strictly adhere to the
University’s COVID-19 protocols.
Movement
of students have been restricted and staff and dependents have been asked to
limit their movement in and out of the campus. Health workers from the
University Clinic are stationed at the main University entrance to screen
everyone entering the campus.
The two-week
suspension of classes will not affect the 2021 Academic Almanac.
To
help students and staff understand more about COVID-19 and the challenges faced
in PNG as well as the importance of adhering to COVID safety protocols, Dr Alex
Maha, Deputy Chief Physician for the New Guinea Islands Region gave a talk to
the campus community on Thursday, March 18, 2021. This is the second such
COVID-19 awareness by Dr Maha and ENBPHA. The first was in May last year.
