This was from Regional Member for Bougainville Peter Tsiamalili Jnr when he visited the University on Wednesday (May 19).
Hon. Tsiamalili who is also the Vice Minister for Bougainville Affairs was accompanied by
Oro Governor Honourable Garry Juffa to meet with students from Bougainville and Oro.
He said currently entrepreneurs are changing the world but he believed that the next wave of people who will help change the world is Agropreneurs.
“Because you are a rare commodity, people like you who manage and sustain the natural resources will become so precious,” he said.
Hon. Tsiamalili told students that PNG UNRE will be a powerful institution in the future because the world is going to need people who can farm the land, manage the
natural resources and who have diversified skills in the agricultural sector.
He said UNRE is significant and the courses delivered at the institution will be in demand.
“You are going to be an international commodity; the world will be needing your skill,” he encouraged.
He added that on the issue of Climate Change, UNRE graduates will greatly benefit the world.
He said Bougainville is affected by many issues such as climate change and the impacts from mining waste and needs young inspiring leaders who can contribute effectively to the province.
PNG UNRE established the School of Environment and Climate Change two years ago and with great commitment and effort from the school’s Dean Professor Dan Orcherton, the
first lot of students were enrolled this year. Some staff have also been recruited.
The students thanked the two MP’s for their visit and the financial assistance they gave to support their clubs.
UNRE Registrar Jennifer Popat was on hand to receive the guests.
